How to wire a light fitting with 3 cables

I want to put up a new light fitting and when I took the old one down I'm faced with cables consisting of re black and earth coming from . Then again I've seen green used as a switch where a core. My new light fitting has x Live terminal, x Neutral terminal and x earth. My question is, is it ok to have of the same wire going into one. I took down the original light only to find there are THREE seperate cables all .
